Trisha Thomas has worked as a television journalist in the Associated Press Rome Bureau since 1994, covering Italy and the Vatican. Over more than three decades, she has reported on four Popes and travelled on 28 papal trips across South America, the Middle East and Africa. She has covered major political events, including the election of Italy’s first woman prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, and years of Silvio Berlusconi’s leadership. Her reporting includes natural disasters such as earthquakes, flooding, drought and avalanches, as well as man-made tragedies. She has focused extensively on migration, reporting from Sicily on migrant arrivals, following a forensic pathologist identifying the bodies of hundreds of migrants who died in the hold of a ship that sunk in 2015, and investigating the trafficking of Nigerian girls to Italy. She served as President of the Foreign Press Association in Italy (2019–2021).
